PROBE

Terms and Conditions

The conditions on which authorised offices and institutions are given access to Probe.

Last updated: September 2026

1. About Probe

Probe is an identity search service operated by Maldives Immigration. It lets authorised officers of government offices and institutions identify a person by face image, passport scan, passport number or Maldivian National Identity Card number, using records held by Maldives Immigration and connected government systems. By logging in to Probe you agree to these Terms.

2. Who May Use Probe

Probe is not open to the public. Access is granted by Maldives Immigration, at its discretion, to named individuals working for an office or institution that has been authorised to use the service. There is no self-registration. An account is personal to the individual it was issued to and must not be shared, lent or used by anyone else, including colleagues in the same institution.

Access is granted for a specific role and may be limited to particular search methods or information. Having access to one feature does not authorise you to use another.

3. Permitted Purpose

You may use Probe only to carry out the official duties of your office or institution, and only where identifying the person concerned is necessary for those duties and lawful under the laws of the Maldives. You must not use Probe:

  • to look up yourself, family, friends, acquaintances, public figures or anyone else out of personal interest;
  • for any commercial, private or political purpose;
  • on behalf of a person or organisation that is not authorised to use Probe;
  • to search images or documents you have not lawfully obtained in the course of your duties;
  • to test, scrape, bulk-query or otherwise attempt to extract data from the service, or to bypass its access controls.

4. Search Results

Results shown in Probe are confidential official information. You may record or share a result only to the extent your duties require and the law allows, and you must not copy, photograph, export or disclose it for any other purpose.

Face search returns possible matches, not a confirmed identity. A match, or a candidate found without a known nationality, must be corroborated through other means before any decision or action is taken that affects the person concerned. Probe draws on several sources that may be incomplete, out of date or temporarily unavailable, and the absence of a result does not mean a person has no record.

5. Monitoring and Audit

Every use of Probe is recorded against your account, including searches that return no result, the candidates you view, and any restricted information you choose to reveal. These records may be reviewed at any time by Maldives Immigration, shared with your office or institution, and used to investigate suspected misuse. Misuse may lead to suspension of access and to disciplinary, administrative or criminal proceedings under the laws of the Maldives.

6. Your Account

You are responsible for all activity carried out under your account. Use a strong password that you do not use elsewhere, enable two-factor authentication where offered, do not leave a signed-in device unattended, and log out at the end of each session. If you believe your account or password has been compromised, notify Maldives Immigration immediately at [email protected].

7. Responsibilities of Your Institution

An office or institution authorised to use Probe is responsible for ensuring that only staff who need access have it, that they are aware of these Terms, and that Maldives Immigration is told promptly when a user changes role, leaves, or no longer needs access, so the account can be withdrawn.

8. Suspension and Withdrawal of Access

Maldives Immigration may suspend or withdraw any user's or institution's access to Probe, or any part of it, at any time and without notice, including where misuse is suspected or where the authorisation of the user or institution has ended. Maldives Immigration may also change, suspend or discontinue the service itself at any time.

9. Limitation of Liability

Probe is provided as an aid to identification. Maldives Immigration does not guarantee that the service will be available, uninterrupted or error-free, or that any result is accurate or complete, and is not liable for any loss, damage or cost arising from reliance on a result, from the service being unavailable, or from any use of Probe contrary to these Terms.

10. Privacy

How Probe handles information about its users and about the people searched for is described in the Probe Privacy Policy.

11. Governing Law and Changes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Maldives. Maldives Immigration may update them from time to time; changes are posted on this page and take effect when posted. Continuing to use Probe after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

By using Probe agrees to our Terms & Privacy Policy.
